Granite City Motor Park owner James Trantina III of St. Joseph, Minn., suffered multiple broken bones, 10 broken ribs and a broken nose in an ATV accident Sunday night at the Sauk Rapids, Minn., track.

“I’m so glad l’m alive. Scariest thing l’ve ever had happen to me,” the 40-year-old Trantina wrote early this morning on his personal Facebook page. “Thank you everyone that helped, thanks to all who finished the program. It’s what I wanted.”

According to Trantina’s publicist Chris Stepan, between United States Modified Touring Series heat races during Sunday’s program, his side-by-side flipped on the backstretch after the track had been watered and Trantina was pinned underneath it. He was being treated at the St. Cloud, Minn., hospital.

Trantina wrote that he was “beyond thankful for my entire crew,” adding that he was on the “road to recovery but l'm alive.”

Along with the Granite City oval, Trantina owns I-94 EMR Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn., and North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn. He also operates the Triple B Motorsports team that includes Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series driver Dan Ebert of Lake Shore, Minn., and Cody Overton of Thomson, Ga., who mentioned Trantina’s crash during his victory lane interview Sunday at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway on the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals.

“Right before the feature, my car owner actually got in an accident at his racetrack,” Overton said. “I don’t know if he’s watching this. It might make him feel a little bit better. He wasn’t doing too good, but he’s going to be OK.”
