Jesse Glenz races to victory at Plymouth Dirt Track.
What won the race: Retaking the lead on a restart with five laps remaining, Jesse Glenz of Fall Creek, Wis., pulled away from a maylay behind him and raced to a $4,200 payday in Friday's Diamond 42 feature at Plymouth Dirt Track. The victory was Glenz's first on the DiscountShopTowels.com Dirt Kings Tour.
Key notes: After leading the race’s first 15 laps, Glenz dropped back as far as fourth before taking advantage of the late restart to charge ahead of leader Justin Reed. Glenz remained steady through three attempts to complete the race's final two laps before finally crossing the finish line 2.869 seconds ahead of runner-up Justin Schmidt. ... The series disqualified and suspended apparent second-place finisher Mitch McGrath for the remainder of the season after McGrath was involved in multiple scrapes and attempted a pair of late-race slide jobs that took out competitors. The first sent second-running Reed spinning at the top of turn two (Reed was black-flagged for retaliating during the ensuing caution). That set up a green-white-checkered finish, during which McGrath attempted another slider on second-running Nick Anvelink. McGrath again came up short of clearing his target, with the resulting contact sending Anvelink hard into the turn-two wall. ... The tour is scheduled to make one more visit to Plymouth in 2020 for a $1,500-to-win event on Aug. 28.
On the move: Justin Schmidt of Cleveland, Wis., started 11th and finished second.
