Race winner Kyle Lukon (middle) is flanked by runner-up Alex Ferree (left) and third-place finisher Logan Zarin (right).
What won the race: Leading all 30 laps from the pole, Kyle Lukon of Burgettstown, Pa., won Friday’s opening night of the Pace Performance RUSH Series-sanctioned Bill Hendren Memorial doubleheader at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Lukon finished 4.212 seconds ahead of Alex Ferree in winning $3,100.
Quotable: "The race track was awesome tonight," said Lukon. "After I came in from the dash, dad said I think you screwed up because up to that point it was a pretty top dominant race track. I got by Tommy (Schirnhofer) on the bottom, but I was a little worried he may get the jump on me on the start. The car was awesome.”
Key notes: The victory followed up Lukon’s 2019 Bill Hendren Memorial triumph. … Lukon was on cruise until two cautions erased his lead. ... No one could take lead advantage of the yellows as Lukon pulled away to a comfortable win. ... It’s the 10th annual RUSH Dirt Late Model Series-sanctioned Bill Hendren Memorial. … PPMS hosts the event for the fifth straight year, though this season’s event was split into two $3,100-to-win features, with a complete program both Friday and Saturday. … The event honors the longtime engine builder who passed away in 2011. … Lukon’s teammate, Levi Spinneweber of Butler, Pa., won the One to Remember race for drivers who have never won a RUSH Series main event. He earned $1,000.
On the move: Eighth-starting Alex Ferree of Saxonburg, Pa., finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Lukon’s winning Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Lukon’s Reb-Fab, Frankland, Tru-Form Race Products, Race1 and Goodyear.
