Cory Hedgecock celebrates his $4,000 victory at I-75 Raceway.
What won the race: Polesitter Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led all 40 laps Saturday at I-75 Raceway to earn his fourth career Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series victory. He collected $4,000.
Quotable: “We’ve struggle so ling I didn’t know if we could figure out how to get back to victory lane,” said Hedgecock. “I appreciate Jensen (Ford) running me so clean. Anybody else I know would have moved me because we were not the fastest, but we’ll take it.”
Key notes: Hedgecock's triumph moves him into a tie for third overall on the Iron-Man Southern Series all-time win list. ... Winner of Friday's event at Wartburg Speedway, Jensen Ford of Johnson City, Tenn., settled for the runner-up position, 0.559 seconds behind Hedgecock. ... With the possibility of rain threatening, the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series feature was moved to the first main event of the evening, with the first qualifying group starting on the inside line of the feature, including the polesitter, while the second qualifying group made up the outside line. ... Saturday's feature, the fourth ever visit to I-75 Raceway for the Iron-Man Southern Series, was slowed by three incidents and lasted 22 minutes with 11 competitors completing all 40 laps. … The series on Saturday announced the addition of an Oct. 22-23 weekend at I-75 for the Valvoline Tennessee Fall Nationals with $4,000- and $10,000-to-win programs.
