What won the race: Leading all 31 laps for a $3,111 victory in the Tanner Pelster Memorial, Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., captured Sunday’s Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series event at Boone County Raceway. Berck took the checkers 0.918 seconds ahead of Josh Leonard and tightened the points chase with series leader Tad Pospisil, who was penalized for contact with another driver and finished ninth.
Key notes: Six of Berck's series-leading 92 career victories have come at Boone County. ... Jesse Sobbing was squeezed into the frontstretch wall on the 18th lap while battling Tad Pospisil for second; Sobbing angrily climbed from his car after stopping in turn one. Both drivers were sent to the tail for the restart. ... Fifth-running Todd Cooney spun exiting turn two on the 20th lap. Although it appeared Cooney got out of shape himself before contact, Cory Dumpert was tagged for the caution and sent to the tail with Cooney ... Cooney and Chase Osborn later tangled for the final caution on lap 30. ... Second-running Jake Neal pulled up lame on the 17th lap to draw a caution. ... Bill Leighton Jr. had a turn-three rollover accident in a consolation race, but he wasn't injured. He took a provisional in the feature, borrowing Dylan Schmer's car. ... The Tanner Pelster Memorial included extra money for all divisions including $5,011-to-win for the stock car division feature. … The event paid tribute to the 24-year-old Albion, Neb., racer who died in a February farming accident. … The 132 race cars in the pits set a track record. … Fans attending Sunday’s event receive free admission to July 16's event on Fan Appreciation Night ($5 admission otherwise).
On the move: Charlie McKenna of Ames, Iowa, started 22nd and finished fifth after taking a provisional because his car’s engine flamed up during heat action.
Winner's sponsors: Berck’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Aurora Cooperative, Strobel Manufacturing, Griess Truck Wash, Preferred Popcorn, Stevens Bros. Bison Farms and Campbell Family Farms.
