Devin Moran cruises toward a $10,000 payday at WVMS.
What won the race: Capitalizing after near-misses at West Virginia Motor Speedway, polesitter Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, dominated Friday's action at the 5/8-mile oval for a $10,000 victory in the 30-lap Mark Balzano Memorial.
Quotable: "It felt like this place owed me one," Moran said in victory lane. "We've been here four times and the first two times we got a flat tire. I want to give a big thank you and shoutout to Cody Watson and the whole track crew team, I don't think you could get this place much better than it was tonight. If they keep it like this, I think they're going to get more and more cars and if they can do this for the Lucas Oil race next year, it's going to put on an awesome show."
Key notes: Runner-up Colten Burdette of Parkersburg, W.Va., finsihed 4.015 seconds behind Moran. ... After drawing a caution flag with a flat left rear tire on lap 10, Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., recovered to finish third. ... Jim Bernheisel of Jonestown, Pa., spun on an attempted restart on lap 25, collecting multiple cars and drawing a red flag lasting 10 minutes. Bernheisel recovered to finish fifth. ... Involved in the wreck, hometown driver Corey Galbreath reported on Facebook that he passed out after climbing from his car, but he was checked out by the paramedics and OK. ... Freddie Carpenter wrecked in the second heat when he got too low entering turn three, folded his nose under and hit the turn-four wall, ending his night. ... Friday's feature, the first of the two-day World Race of Champions event, was slowed by five separate incidents and lasted nearly 40 minutes, with five competitors completing all 30 laps. ... Action continues Saturday at WVMS (without the Late Models) with a $20,000-to-win sprint car race highlighting the action.
On the move: George Klintworth of Lowell, Ohio, started 11th and finished sixth.
