Cody Hedgecock celebrates in victory lane at Talladega Short Track.
What won the race: Pole-starting Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led all 40 laps Saturday at Talladega Short Track to win the Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout opener. Hedgecock pocketed $3,000 in the event for 604 Crate Late Models at TST’s 31st annual Ice Bowl.
Quotable: “Finally got the Ice Bowl! We were fast as hell all weekend long, and it’s always great to get the first win out of the way early,” Hedgecock said. “We’re hitting the ground running this year, and I appreciate everyone who makes this program possible. We’ll head to Volusia (Speedway Park) in a few weeks for the Sunshine Nationals and see if we can’t go to victory lane there, too.”
On the move: Austin Horton of Newnan, Ga., started 13th and finished fifth.
