Brandon Overton led a single lap in his Wythe Raceway victory.
What won the race: Nosing ahead of race-long leader Jonathan Davenport in turns three and four on the final lap, fourth-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., raced to the $10,053 Schaeffer's Spring Nationals victory on Friday night at Wythe Raceway. He finished 0.337 seconds ahead of second-starting Davenport to claim his sixth series triumph.
Key notes: Overton, who threatened early pacesetter Jonathan Davenport over the final 20 circuits, used a lapped-car to his advantage in the final corner as he nosed ahead of the leader on the bottom. ... Fast-qualifier and polesitter Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., retired on lap 20 with a deflating right-front tire while running in the top-five. ... Eighth-starting Ricky Weiss of Headlingley, Manitoba, was the first retiree of the race after drawing a caution on the 11th circuit. ... Schaeffer's Spring Nationals rookie Payton Freeman of Commerce, Ga., suffered a broken driveshaft on lap 17. ... The series heads to Tazewell Speedway on Saturday for the $21,000-to-win Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial.
On the move: Jensen Ford of Johnson City, Tenn., started 17th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Wells Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Race Engine and sponsored by CrossFit Overton, E-Z-Go, Big Dog Stump & Tree, R.W.
