Travis Budisalovich emerges from his car in victory lane.
What won the race: Second-starting Travis Budisalovich of Minneapolis, Minn., led all 40 laps Wednesday at Hibbing Raceway to capture the second round of the XR Northern Storm on the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series. Pole-starting rookie Danny Vang was second with Pat Doar in third.
Quotable: "I don't know what it was like behind me," Budisalovich said. "You just feel like a sitting duck when you're sitting out front you have no idea what the fast line, so you just kinda try everything. ... This track is usually racy 40 straight laps, but if it locks down in you're in the front, it's a little better."
Key notes: Budisalovich earned his third career WCS victory, his first with the series since Sept. 2, 2021 at Halvor Lines Speedway. ... The 40-lap feature was slowed by five cautions, most notably a trio of multicar incidents in the opening three circuits. ... Hibbing Raceway hosted the second of four nights of the XR Northern Storm. ... The miniseries was scheduled to visit five tracks in five days, but Tuesday’s race at Grand Rapids (Minn.) Speedway was rained out. ... Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., won Monday’s opener at Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway, but came one spot short of making Wednesday's main event at Hibbing. … The tour next heads to ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wis., and Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wis. (running twin 25s paying $2,000-to-win each).
On the move: Reigning series champ Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., started 16th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Budisalovich's MB Customs Race Car is sponsored by ORD Racing Development, A&Dubs Drive-in, Blue Max, Contract Tile & Carpet, Gregorich & Matack Family Dental, Second Chance Property Services and SNAP Signs.
Points chase: After Hibbing: 1. Cole Searing (636); 2. Shane Edginton (602); 3. Darrell Nelson (532); 4. Ryan Mikkelson (523); 5. Jon Tollakson (497).
