Mike Marlar heads to a $5,000 Chasing the Dream victory.
What won the race: Taking the lead in lap six when leader Freddie Carpenter slowed with a broken crank trigger, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led the rest of the way to win Wednesday’s second 20-lap Chase the Dream feature. Marlar finished 1.992 seconds ahead of Chase Junghans, while Garrett Smith finished third. Eighth-starting Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., and polesitter Mike Benedum of Salem, W.Va., completed the top five.
Quotable: "I've run second and third and about won the big ones a couple of times here, but just haven't won a prelim for some reason," Marlar said of his Eldora history. "We've run good in 'em. I think Billy Moyer beat me by half a car one year. It means a lot. Eldora's a cool place and it means a lot to get a win here."
Key notes: Marlar has nine victories on the season. ... The race was slowed by three cautions: a wreck in turns three and four involving Jason Riggs, R.J. Conley and Mike Provenzano that required a complete restart; Carpenter’s broken crank trigger on lap six; and Kody Evans on lap 18 slowed with a smoking engine. ... Three $5,000-to-win Chasing the Dream features were added to Wednesday's program preceding the completion of June's rain-halted Dream.
On the move: Garrett Smith of Eatonton, Ga., started 14th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Delk Equipment Sales, Rockets Convenience Plus, Tri-Rivers Enterprise (Mark and Kim Dotson), Auto Parts 4 Less, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Capital Capsigns, VP Racing Fuels, Stanley Best Heating & Aiar, Midwest Sheet Metal and Bilstein.
Who to watch: Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., the highest-ranked eligible driver.
Points chase: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., leads DIRTcar’s weekly Super Late Model points.
Current weather: Clear, 66°F
Car count: 66
Fast qualifier: Mike Marlar
Time: 15.425 seconds
Polesitter: Mike Benedum
