What won the race: Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., took the lead for good Wednesday on lap 46 when Dale McDowell suffered a flat left-rear tire at the entrance of turn three, drawing the race's seventh caution. Hedgecock paced the final five circuits at Volunteer Speedway, winning the $12,000 15th annual Scorcher. Hedgecock earned his eighth career Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series feature victory and his third at Volunteer.

Quotable: "I'd rather be lucky than good any day. Dale was fast, I get so tight here the longer we run and Dale is really good about steering," Hedgecock said. "Just tickled to death, glad it all worked out. Saw he was having a flat going down on the left-rear with that restart and thought if we could just keep riding around here, I might be able to get this thing."

Cameron Weaver suffered mechanical problems in his heat race while Dalton Cook hit the wall during hot laps; both scratched. ... Wednesday's feature, the tour’s fourth-ever visit to Volunteer, was slowed by eight cautions and lasted 46 minutes, with seven competitors completing 50 laps.
