Tyler Peterson led all the way for his victory at Casino Speedway.
What won the race: Leading all 40 laps, Late Model rookie Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D., held off veteran John Kaanta to pick up his second consecutive Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series victory in Sunday's 11th annual Marilyn Olson Memorial at Casino Speedway, earning $3,000.
Quotable: “Oh man, I didn’t feel like I had a dominating race car,” Peterson said. “It was completely different than it was last night, we just left the car alone and it seemed to work out for us. I knew with John (Kaanta) and especially Chad (Becker), he races here all the time, he’s really fast here right behind me and there were like 90 yellows, I was like they are trying to give this win to Chad. (I had an) awesome car, want to give a big shoutout to my boss Adam for giving me a hell of a race car to work with here.”
Key notes: Peterson followed up his first career Late Model victory the night prior at Madison Speedway with another triumph to conclude the four-race Troy Benson Tribute Tour. … John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., finished second, 1.617 seconds back. ... Third place finisher Chad Becker of Aberdeen, S.D., was involved in a multicar incident at the halfway point, when lapped cars Blake Swenson and Curt Kranz got together in the middle of turns three and four. ... Another multicar incident brought out the caution flag four laps later on lap 24, involving Trevor Walsh, Jayson Good and Ryan Engels, who were all unable to continue. ... Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., winner of the Troy Benson Tribute Tour's opening two events at KRA and Fiesta City Speedway, finished 10th. ... The four-race weekend honored Troy Benson of Watertown, S.D., whose family purchased Casino Speedway in the late 1970’s; Troy had a brief stint behind the wheel before serving as the track announcer for nearly two decades. Many believe Troy’s accomplishments as an announcer gained him respect and notoriety among the racing community in the upper Midwest. Troy passed away on May 11, 2023 at the age of 52 after a bought with an extended illness. ... The 40-lap feature lasted 40 minutes and was slowed by seven cautions. ... Eleven starters finished on the lead lap.
On the move: Cole Searing of Huron, S.D., started 16th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Peterson’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Corky Thomas Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Enclave, Quick-Lift, TP Fabricating, AllFab Railings & Metalworks, Powdercoat Specialists and Slider Shots Media.
