Michael Chilton heads for a $7,500 victory at Richmond Raceway.
What won the race: Outisde front-row starter Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., cruised to a 40-lap victory Saturday at Richmond Raceway in the $7,500 Butch Shay Memorial. Chilton earned his second Ultimate Heart of America Series victory of the season.
Key notes: Chilton also won June's $5,000 Rowland Memorial at Richmond and by winning, secures a provisional starting position in August's $20,059-to-win 36th annual Butterball Wooldridge Memorial event there. ... Third-starting Kyle Hardy moved into second on lap nine and trailed Chilton the rest of the way, finishing 3.347 seconds back; Hardy remains red-hot, having notched two victories and two runner-up finishes in his last four starts. ... Series points leader and sixth-starting Tristan Chamberlain moved into third on a lap-24 restart and completed the podium. ... Last year's race winner James Rice advanced four positions and finished fourth. ... Pole-starting Jason Jameson faded to finish fifth. ... Dustin Linville drew the race's final caution when he slowed from fourth on lap 24. ... Saturday marked the first event at Richmond since the facility sustained significant storm damage in late June and paid tribute to Butch Shay, a racing legend in the Kentucky area. The feature was slowed by eight cautions and lasted 41 minutes, with 10 drivers completing all 40 laps; 12 were running at the finish.
On the move: Derek Fisher of Columbus, Ind., started 19th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Chilton’s Rocket Chassis with a Bullock Race Engine is sponsored by Caton Industrial Painting, MKC Transport, Parkview Home Center, Equiplinc Austion Group, Edgewood Homes and C&C Red-Mix.
