Tyler Erb celebrates in victory lane at Tri-City Speedway.
What won the race: Making it 2-for-2 on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, overtook Kye Blight on the 10th lap at Tri-City Speedway and secured a $10,000 victory. Erb, who captured Wednesday's opener at Peoria Speedway, collected his sixth career tour victory, winning by 1.409 seconds over Frank Heckenast Jr. with Billy Moyer third.
Quotable: "I could tell (the track surface) was rubbered at some point/ I just didn't know how soon to move down. Down there when I moved down, I think that kinda, you know, made me feel a little bit more at ease because I kinda found the rubber down the front straightaway," Erb said. "Yeah it's awesome. It's a lot of fun. Winning is always fun and, you know, being happy about being in places makes a big, big difference."
Key notes: Erb previously led the white-flag lap in a Summer Nationals race at Tri-City in 2019, but Kyle Bronson knocked him out of the lead in turns three and four and grabbed the victory. ... Erb's back-to-back victories matches Brian Shirley's victories in the first two series events last season. ... The last driver to win the tour's first three races was Billy Moyer in 2010. ... Moyer won the first six races on the '94 tour while Scott Bloomquist won the first four in '90. ... Early leader Kye Blight retired after 15 laps. ... A red flag appeared on the 16th lap when Kayden Clatt had a slow rollover between turns three and four. Clatt, making his second series start, had slowed and Kye Blight's contact sent him over. He was OK. ... Another caution appeared for Tanner English's turn-two spin on the 19th lap. ... Brian Shirley scratched for the night after hitting the wall in the first heat. ... Extensive track prep delayed heat race action until after 9 p.m. and the night's schedule was shuffled. ... The series made its 27th visit to the 3/8-mile oval, dating back to the inaugural season in 1986. ... Erb led all 30 laps of Wednesday’s season opener at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway; Thursday's race at Kankakee County Speedway in Kankakee, Ill., rained out.
On the move: Third-place finisher Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., started eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
