What won the race: Sliding by Ryan Gustin on lap 25 with a move that resulted in the race-long leader hitting the turn-one wall, pole-starting Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C., took command and led the rest of Tuesday's 35-lap Superior Showcase at Gondik Law Speedway. Hoffman earned $15,000 for his first career XR Super Series victory and notched his third victory since June 22 at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway — he also earned $15,000 on June 29 at Norman County Raceway in Adam, Minn. — to boost his total race winnings to more than $45,000 over that 11-day span.

Quotable: “The racetrack was stupid fast tonight too. We were hoping it would slow down a little bit — we were pretty excited to get on something slick and smooth like last year,” Hoffman said. “Just played out in our favor there. I don’t know what happened to Gustin, if I took his air away into (turn) one or what. I felt like my stuff was a little better (than Gustin's) at that point in the race.”

Key notes: Second-starting Gustin, of Marshalltown, Iowa, led the opening 24 laps before Hoffman charged off the inside of turn to nip him at the line to lead the 25th circuit by 0.391 of a second. Hoffman then slid directly in front of Gustin entering turn one and Gustin's right-rear went hard into the outside wall to draw the race's third and final caution. Gustin was uninjured but required a tow back to the pits. ... Bobby Pierce grabbed the runner-up spot from Devin Moran on lap 30 and trailed Hoffman the final five laps, finishing 0.878 of a second back. Moran settled for third. ... The first caution came on the opening lap when Mike Marlar and Brent Larson, battling for fourth, made contact that caused Larson to spin and get clipped by Tyler Stevens. Stevens's the right-rear sheetmetal and decking was knocked off to end his night while Larson continued to finish ninth. ... Sammy Mars retired during the opening-lap yellow. ... The second slowdown came on lap three when Travis Budisalovich spun before calling it a night. ... Tuesday's 35-lapper lasted 19 minutes, with 11 competitors completing the distance. ... Aaron Lillo scratched from the feature.

On the move: Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., started 16th and finished seventh.
