Becoming the third leader with two laps remaining, ninth-starting Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, topped World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series points leader Brandon Sheppard in a late lead-swapping duel for a $6,000 USA Nationals preliminary victory at Cedar Lake Speedway. Sheppard led laps 18-23 while fellow front-row starter Jonathan Davenport led the first 17 laps and finished third in the nightcap of a preliminary doubleheader ahead of Saturday's 100-lapper. Bobby Pierce's bid for a record-setting seventh straight WoO victory ended in a lap-five wreck in turn four.
