Tony Jackson Jr. swept the night in his debut aboard a new Longhorn Chassis.
What won the race: Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., dominated Friday's Back to School Night at Outlaw Motor Speedway, leading all 30 laps from the pole after earning fast qualifier honors and winning his heat. Jackson secured the $5,000 payday for his first victory of the season and his 11th career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series triumph. It's his first series win since Oct. 13, 2019, a $3,000 Fall Nationals opener at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.
Quotable: “Yeah it was (a perfect night). Man, I got a lot of people to thank, we’re gonna run out of battery in this thing,” an emotional Jackson said. “First and foremost, I want to thank Rob (Schlup) and his wife Liz ... I wouldn’t be standing here, literally, without them. I want to thank Vinny (Guliani of VG Performance), he’s the guy, you know. I used to win races with him, got sidetracked a little bit the last few years and got back hooked up with him .. (now) I’m back in the same spot.”
Key notes: Jackson piloted a brand new Longhorn Chassis to his first victory of any kind since topping a 27-car MARS field for $5,000 last August at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. ... Jackson has now won all three Comp Cams Series visits to the Oktaha, Okla., 3/8-mile oval (2015, '16). ... Fifth-starting Timothy Culp slipped by Clay Stuckey for the runner-up spot on lap 18 and trailed Jackson the rest of the way, finishing 5.622 seconds back in his season debut. Ironically, Jackson fell short of Culp by 23 points for the 2019 series title, the last time he contested the full schedule. ... Stuckey settled for third. ... Outlaw's dry surface took rubber quickly, making for bottom-dominant conditions and limited passing. The main event went green-to-checkered and lasted 10 minutes, with 14 competitors completing the distance and 18 running at the checkers. ... Brett Hansen scratched. ... Two days after the event, track promoters announced a suspension of operations, citing a verbal assault of a family member of the promoters at the Comp Cams event.
On the move: Runner-up Timothy Culp of Prattsville, Ark., started fifth in his first series start of the season; Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started 11th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Jackson’s Longhorn Chassis by VG Performance is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Rob and Liz Schlup, Superior Power Custom Homes, Merrill Bonding, Elite Trailers, Willard Quarries, Daly Construction, Chris Norris of Norris Logging, Wilwood Disc Brakes, Five Star Bodies, DirtCarLift.com, Sunoco Race Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, Deatherage Racing Optics and Sweet Victory Apparel.
Points chase: After Outlaw: 1. Logan Martin (665); 2. Morgan Bagley (642); 3. Kyle Beard (604); 4. Jon Mitchell (588); 5. B.J. Robinson (587).
