What won the race: Outdueling Cody Overton after a mid-race restart, pole-starting Joseph Brown of Pine Mountain Valley, Ga., led the final 17 laps unchallenged to win Sunday's $5,000 604 Crate portion of the 50th annual National 100 at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Brown led all but three laps (1-7, 9-11, 14-31) to win by 2.014 seconds over eighth-starting Jake Traylor, matching his $5,000 victory there on Oct. 29, 2022.
Quotable: "Just tough Crate racing, man. Cody (Overton) kind of used me up there in (turn) one and I kind of used him up in (turn) three, But man, we had an awesome car," Brown said. "I can't thank Cody Mallory enough. We've had a pretty good year. ... this one means a lot."
Key notes: Third-starting Cody Overton slid by Brown to lead laps 12 and 13 before Brown regained control; the two drivers made heavy contact on lap 22, flattening Overton's left-rear tire and sending him to the pits. ... Brown won with a badly damaged left-front nosepiece following the contact, while Overton rebounded to third after also overcoming a lap-26 spin. ... Mark Whitener challenged Brown and Overton throughout, leading the eighth lap before slowing with a flat right-rear to draw the race's 12th and final caution on lap 30. Whitener was credited with 13th after changing the tire. ... Jake Traylor inherited second on the lap-30 restart after Tyler Thomason pulled off. ... Wil Herrington overcame a lap-four spin to climb as high as ninth before spinning again and pulling off on lap 28. ... The race was shortened to 31 laps (from 40) after 50 minutes. ... The Super Late Model portion of the National 100 follows all undercard action.
On the move: Tim Dixon of Adel, Ga., started 20th and finished sixth.
