Dillon McCowan grabbed a $6,064 victory at Springfield Raceway.
What won the race: Inheriting control after Daniel Hilsabeck slowed with a flat right-rear tire on lap 21, second-starting Dillon McCowan of Urbana, Mo., led the rest of Saturday's 30-lap Turkey Bowl XVIII at Springfield Raceway. McCowan bagged his first Turkey Bowl triumph and the $6,064 Super Late Model payday, his third victory of the season.
Quotable: “(I'm) pretty tired. That double-duty stuff is pretty tough,” said McCowan, who ran two divisions. “Especially when you’re going from four link (rear suspension), everything that’s on these Late Models, back down to a B-mod. It probably helped me with my throttle control and everything like that."
Key notes: McCowan won in an all-black car, explaining they dusted off an older Longhorn Chassis and peeled the existing wrap off, leaving only No. 8 decals on each door. ... Daniel Hilsabeck led the opening 20 laps before slowing with a flat right-rear. He rebounded to finish sixth after changing the tire. ... Eleventh-starting Logan Martin inherited second on the lap-21 restart and trailed McCowan the rest of the way, finishing 1.695 seconds back. ... Clay Stuckey gained four spots and finished third. He was seeking his second win of the season at Springfield after earning his first career Comp Cams Series win there in March, worth $5,000. ... Dustin Hodges ran as high as fourth on lap 22 before settling for fifth. ... Second-running Tony Jackson Jr. hopped the turn-one cushion on lap 11 and slipped as low as 10th before pulling off on lap 22. ... The race was slowed by five cautions, the first coming on lap four after Scott Crigler and Logan Martin made contact, sending Crigler spinning and collecting Kayden Clatt, among others. Clatt was unable to continue. ... Crigler continued and overcame a second spin on lap 22 to finish ninth. The lap-22 incident also collected Sawyer Crigler and Kaeden Cornell, ending their race. ... The second stoppage came when third-running Ryan Gustin slowed with a flat right-rear on lap 10. Gustin nearly slowed to a stop and lost two laps before the yellow flag was displayed; he opted not to continue. ... Hilsabeck's flat caused the third slowdown before Rusty Griffaw spun from eighth and nosed his car into the frontstretch wall on lap 24, ending his night. ... The feature lasted 24 minutes, with 13 starters completing 30 laps. ... The checkered flag fell at 12:30 a.m. ... Brennon Willard made his first start since donating a kidney to his mother, but failed to make the feature.
On the move: Dustin Hodges of Centralia, Mo., started 17th and finished fifth.
