Petey Ivey joins son Trent in victory lane after the Blue-Gray 100.
What won the race: Leading all 60 laps, polesitter Trent Ivey of Union, S.C., matched his father's biggest victory Sunday at Cherokee Speedway with a $20,000 triumph in the 34th annual Blue-Gray 100. Ivey took the checkers 1.144 seconds ahead of Daulton Wilson in the race co-sanctioned by the Carolina Clash and Mid-East Super Late Model circuit.
Quotable: "It ain't me, man, it's all these people you see out here (in victory lane), there's 100 people out here. My mom and dad, my fiancee ... " Ivey said thanking all his crew and supporters. "It means a lot to have my name (on the winner's list among) all the people that's won the Blue-Gray 100."
Key notes: The Iveys are the first father-son duo to win Cherokee's biggest annual event. ... Trent Ivey was 6 years old in 2003 when his father Petey grabbed his biggest career victory. ... The $20,000 payday matches his richest career victory from Cherokee's March Madness. ... Jonathan Davenport ran a strong second in the first half of the race, but he slipped from contention after a lap-37 restart. ... Outside front-row starter Zack Mitchell lost several spots on the initial start and never contended. ... Five cautions slowed the action, the last on the 59th lap for Nick Hoffman's flat tire. ... David Yandle spun on the fifth lap. ... A 16th-lap yellow appeared for debris. ... On the 38th lap, Doug Sanders slowed. ... On lap 53, Beckham Malone slowed for a caution. ... Donovan Jackson scratched from the feature. ... In prelims, Gavin Cowan broke a driveshaft on the last lap of the first consolation race, giving up a transfer spot (Christian Thomas headed pitside thinking the race was over and also lost a transfer spot). ... Cherokee's Hall of Famers for 2024 were inducted: Dennis Cowart, Paulette Sanders, Ann Holland, Jimmy Bullock and Bruce Coyle.
On the move: Michael Brown of Pageland, S.C., started 10th and finished fourth.
