What won the race: Working his way by Braden Jones after early leader Tyler Bare pitted on the sixth lap, second-starting Kennie Compton Jr. of Bland, Va., led the final 23 circuits of Sunday's rain-postponed Cagle Automotive Blue Ridge Outlaws Series feature at Wythe Raceway. Compton held off a surging Dale Timms and beat him to the line by 0.729 of a second for the $4,000 payday and his second career Blue Ridge Outlaws triumph, his first since 2018's season opener at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, N.C.
Key notes: Compton captured his second overall victory of the season after also topping March 8's local show at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C. ... It's his first special event victory since his first Blue Ridge Outlaws triumph on March 17, 2018. ... Fourth-starting Dale Timms grabbed the runner-up spot from Braden Jones on the 10th lap and trailed Compton by as much as 2.651 on lap 19, before cutting his advantage to less than a second at the checkers. ... The seventh-starting Jones, of Cherryville, N.C., led laps 6-7 before fading to sixth. ... Tyler Bare led the opening five laps from the pole before pitting and dropping as low as eighth, then charged to finish third, just a half-second behind Timms at the line. ... Third-starting Matt Long pursued Bare the opening five circuits before also pitting on the sixth lap, then retiring a handful of laps later. ... Timbo Mangum was the race's first retiree after pulling off on lap three. ... The 30-lap feature, rain-postponed from Saturday night, was slowed by multiple yellow flags in the early going, before the final 23 circuits were completed without further incident; the race lasted 23 minutes, with seven starters completing the distance. ...
