Jacob Brown (center) celebrates his first major victory in nearly two years.
What won the race: Jacob Brown of Gaffney, S.C., fired off from the outside front-row and never looked back, leading all 30 laps en route to winning Saturday's $3,000 Charlie Blanton Memorial at Harris Speedway. Brown beat polesitter Brandon Dockery to the checkers by 3.884 seconds for his first career Cagle Automotive Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model Series victory and his first major event triumph since Aug. 19, 2023, a $7,500 Mid-East 604 payday at Lancaster (S.C.) Motor Speedway.
Quotable: "I've really gotta thank Brandon (Dockery), he's raced me clean every time I've lined up beside him. He's always gave me room and I've always returned the favor," Jacob Brown said. "I knew that lapped traffic might get tricky at this place — it gets tight at times — and I just wanted to make sure that I good enough gap, that way I could give myself a couple of laps to figure out where the lapped cars were going to run."
Key notes: Brown became the 66th winner in tour history. ... The pole-starting Dockery, of Gastonia, N.C., trailed Brown for all 30 laps. ... Series points leader Dale Timms grabbed third from Dillon Brown on a lap-18 restart and completed the podium finishers. ... Sixth-starting Adam Yarbrough followed Timms by Brown on the lap-18 restart, relegating Brown to fifth. ... Bryan Mullis gained four spots to finish sixth. ... The event honored Charlie Blanton, a patriarch and former racer in the Carolinas. ... The main event was slowed by four separate incidents, the largest coming on lap 18 and ending the nights for Jay Sessoms, Braden Jones, Aaron Weed, Baron McDowell and Jason Womack; Sessoms and Jones were later disqualified for extra curricular activities under the yellow, crediting them with 24th and 25th in the final rundown. ... Anthony Sanders and Colt Smith appeared to be eliminated during the race's third slowdown on the ninth lap. ... A lap-eight caution flew for Jonathan Jennings after Timbo Mangum and Mark Greene tangled on the second lap. ... The 30-lapper lasted 43 minutes, with 11 starters completing the distance and 13 running at the finish. … Blue Ridge Outlaw competitors are slated to return to Harris on Aug. 23 for a $3,500-to-win event.
