Tyler Erb (1) briefly led Jason Feger early, but didn't go past for good until Feger's car faltered late.
What won the race: Diving under race-long leader Jason Feger entering turn three on the 27th lap, reigning tour champ Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, grabbed Sunday's DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory at Lincoln Speedway, earning $7,500. Feger led 26 laps but appeared to get bogged down in the turn-three cushion when Erb flashed past to grab the point. Feger slowed and pulled off the track a lap later with mechanical failure and Erb completed his 30-lap victory, taking the checkers 0.988 of a second ahead of Cade Dillard.
Quotable: "It was a good race," Erb said. "I was trying to tell myself just not to to hit the wall too hard there in (turns) one and two and when we got to traffic, I could tell when he'd peel off of (the cushion), if I just stay up against it, I could make a lot of speed."
Key notes: Tyler Erb notched his second series victory of the season and 17th of his career; he also won Thursday at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. ... Erb briefly slipped past Feger on the second lap, but didn't officially lead a lap until the final four circuits. ... Jason Feger, the tour's Week 1 champ, was making a bid to win on the tour at Lincoln for the fourth straight season. He reported he broke the J-bar, driveshaft and pinion mount as a result of getting into the cushion. ... Ryan Gustin's third-place finish secured his $10,000 Week 2 title. ... Three cautions slowed the feature, the first on the eighth lap when Michael Leach and Ashton Winger's cars briefly got hung up on the backstretch. ... Eighth-running Brian Shirley retired for a lap-23 yellow. ... The final caution fell on the 27th lap for Feger's departure. ... Brandon Sheppard was among drivers failing to make the feature lineup, mostly because of a flat tire in his heat race after apparent contact with Dillon McCowan. ... Monday is an off day with Week 3 for the Summer Nationals beginning Tuesday at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway.
On the move: Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., started 21st and finished fifth. (Unaware he'd get a provisional, Dotson had loaded his car prior to seeing the lineup, but quickly unloaded with the help of fellow World of Outlaws rookie Drake Troutman, a three-time Summer Nationals winner this season who sat out Sunday's action.)
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
Points chase: Summer Nationals Week 2 final: 1. Ryan Gustin (339); 2. Tyler Erb (331); 3. Dennis Erb Jr. (293); 4. Ashton Winger (270); 5. Jason Feger (268). Summer Nationals overall after Lincoln: 1. Jason Feger (598); 2. Dennis Erb Jr. (588); 3. Tyler Erb (573); 4. Dillon McCowan (493); 5. Drake Troutman (473).
