Chris Madden celebrates his second straight $10,053 Wythe victory.
What won the race: Leading all the way, winningest series driver Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., won on the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals at Wythe Raceway for the second consecutive year, collecting $10,053. Madden, making part-time starts in 2025 and recently connecting with KGM Motorsports, took the checkers 5.309 seconds ahead of runner-up Chris Ferguson.
Quotable: “We had a good little shower,” Madden said. “It wasn’t a heavy rainfall that run off, it was a soaking shower, and it really kept the speed up (in the surface). It stayed really smooth and got fast. I didn’t think it was going to stay that fast that long, but it did.”
Key notes: Chris Madden, a five-time series champion, notched his series-leading 30th career victory. ... Polesitter Garrett Smith ran second most of the way but fell to third behind Chris Ferguson with four laps remaining. ... Five cautions slowed the action, including when multiple-time Wythe winner and fifth-running Dale McDowell had a flat left-rear tire on the 29th lap. ... Kevin Wilson slowed for a lap-five caution. ... Willie Milliken slowed for a lap-eight caution. ... Kennie Compton Jr.'s smoking car — a result of terminal engine trouble — drew a lap-13 yellow. ... The fourth yellow dropped on lap 23 when Trent Ivey slowed on the backstretch. ... The feature started at 11:23 p.m. and concluded at 11:53 p.m.. ... A dozen drivers completed 40 laps. ... Rain just before time trials delayed the night's program a few hours and shuffled the schedule with officials dropping heat races and lining up the feature by qualifying times.
On the move: Runner-up Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N,.C., started 10th.
