Cory Hedgecock captured his third straight Southern Thunder victory.
What won the race: Fighting off a slide job attempt from Trey Mills and a late challenge from Shane Clanton, polesitter Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led all 50 laps of Saturday's $7,500 Peach Blossom feature at Senoia Raceway. Hedgecock beat Clanton to the line by 1.272 seconds for his third straight Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series victory and ninth overall win of the season.
Quotable: “We had a good car, gotta thank (my) dad and everything,” Hedgecock said. “I don’t know if we were the best thing on the racetrack, I know (Shane) Clanton was underneath me and Trey (Mills) absolutely scared the hell out of me when he slid me. He did nothing wrong, I just wasn’t ready for it.”
Key notes: Hedgecock added to Southern Thunder wins on Aug. 16 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn., and Sept. 20 at Chatsworth's North Georgia Speedway, boosting his total winnings to more than $20,000 on the first-year tour. ... It's his second victory aboard a new Longhorn Chassis. ... Third-starting Shane Clanton took second back from Trey Mills on a lap-36 restart and trailed Hedgecock the final 15 circuits. ... Mills, who pressured Hedgecock before the lap-36 caution, hopped the turn-three cushion on the final lap and ended up ninth. ... Third-place finisher Haiden Cowan gained eight spots. ... Zack Mitchell took fifth late from Dalton Cook. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, the last on lap 36 when Hadley Greene spun. ... Payton Stevenson slowed from 10th on lap 20 and retired. ... Michael Page slowed from third on the 13th lap and parked it. ... The 50-lapper lasted 18 minutes with nine starters completing the distance. ... Matthew Taylor scratched.
On the move: Jordy Nipper of Gray, Ga., started 17th and finished seventh.
