Caden McWhorter celebrates a $5,000 Ultimate Heart of America victory.
What won the race: Controlling the action from flag-to-flag, division rookie Caden McWhorter of Fairbury, Ill., captured Saturday’s 40-lap Ultimate Heart of America Series Monster Mash finale at Montpelier Speedway. The young driver beat veteran Devin Gilpin to the finish line by 4.533 seconds for a $5,000 payday and his first-ever touring triumph.
Quotable: “I knew that first corner was gonna be a big deal, so I was gonna win it or wreck it right there,” McWhorter said of the race’s start. “I went for it.”
Key notes: McWhorter won his first race since he began driving for Doug Curless in mid-August. It came after he finished second in Friday’s unsanctioned 25-lap feature that opened the weekend. … It marked his second Super Late Model victory; his first came Aug. 8 in weekly competition at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway. ... World of Outlaws regular Tristan Chamberlain, who won Friday’s preliminary feature, challenged McWhorter early in the race before spinning in turn four on lap 14 when he tangled with a lapped car. He rallied from the rear of the field to finish fifth. … Gilpin lost second to Steve Peeden on lap 27 but regained the spot the following circuit and held it to the finish. … Derek Fisher, who finished eighth, clinched the Ultimate Heart of America Series title. ... Six caution flags slowed the race, including four between laps 23 and 34; the 40-lapper lasted 30 minutes with 15 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, started 16th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: McWhorter drove a Curless Motorsports Longhorn Chassis sponsored by Mobil 1, C&W Trucking, Truck Country, Pontiac RV and Nutrien Ag Solutions.
Points chase: Ultimate HofA 2025 final: 1. Derek Fisher (345); 2. Blake Creech (320); 3. Larry Martin Jr. (260); 4. Brad Rickels (235); 5. Daniel Shelton (223).
