What won the race: Leading all 40 laps from his pole position, fast qualifier Clay Stuckey of Shreveport, La., earned $3,000 Friday at Pike County Speedway on the opening night of the unsanctioned Jambalaya 100 weekend. Home-state racer Spencer Hughes finished 1.031 seconds back as the runner-up with Oklahoma invader Eli Ross in third.
Quotable: "It's the first time I've been here with an open motor ever, so that was different," said Stuckey, who previously ran at the track in Crate Late Models. "It's definitely, what Spencer (Hughes) and Kye (Kelley) and everybody's done to the track, has made a massive improvement. I mean, that was a lot of fun. That was a fun 40 laps."
Key notes: Stuckey, who signed his own name on the oversized check in victory lane, notched his first victory since March 1 at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway. ... His biggest issue came with 12 laps to go when he briefly became hung up on the slower car of Jamie McClendon, causing right-side body damage for Stuckey's No. 15. ... Runner-up Spencer Hughes had helped prepare the track surface along with Whynot Motorsports Park promoter Rodney Wing. Hughes settled for runner-up money aboard Randy Thompson's No. K3 entry. ... Three cautions slowed the action, the first on the ninth lap for Scooter Fredrickson's turn-two spin. ... On the 13th lap, seventh-running Chad Thrash spun between turns three and four. ... On lap 20, Ben Davis slowed while Jeremy Pate spun in turn two. ... The Late Model feature started after 12:30 a.m., more than two hours after heat races were completed. ... It was difficult to see on the backstretch in the early laps of the feature because of smoke from fireworks. ... The feature ended at 12:49 a.m. with two more features remaining. ... Eight drivers completed 40 laps. ... The Pike County oval, recently acquired by no-prep outlaws drag racer Kye Kelley, concludes the Jambalaya 100 with Saturday's $7,000-to-win Super Late Model feature. ... Kelley scratched from Friday's Late Model feature. ... Watch live Saturday on Hunt the Front TV.
