What won the race: Slipping by race-long leader Clay Stuckey taking the white flag, second-starting Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., led the final two laps ofSaturday's Jambalaya 100 finale at Pike County Speedway, worth $7,000. Hughes beat Stuckey by 0.541 of a second for his third feature win of the season and first aboard a Super Late Model.
Quotable: “I just knew I needed to stay close to (Clay Stuckey) there in lapped traffic. It’s kinda hairy getting around the bottom like that, so I knew if I could stay close maybe something would happen,” Hughes said. “He slipped up a little bit and I was able to get up under him and just get a run on him, just tried to keep the bottom shut down that last lap.”
Key notes: Hughes notched his first Super Late Model win since June 15, 2024, a Comp Cams-sanctioned Clash at the Mag victory, worth $12,000. ... His other two wins this season came in 604 Crate action. ... Stuckey, who led all 40 laps of Friday's opener and 98 of 100 laps contested over the weekend, settled for second. ... Fifth-starting Joseph Joiner took third from Chad Thrash on the final lap after Thrash attempted the high line entering turn three and slipped to fourth. ... Kendall Franklin took fifth from Eli Ross on the 13th lap, relegating Ross to sixth. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, the first coming for Michael Santangelo's lap-10 spin. ... Tracy Denby Jr. spun in turn four on the 33rd lap. ... Luke Bennett spun from eighth on the ensuing restart attempt, drawing the final stoppage. ... The 60-lap Jambalaya 100 finale lasted 27 minutes with seven starters completing the distance and 12 running at the checkers.
