Allen Brannon picked up a $6,000 victory Saturday at Winchester.
What won the race: Making his Crate Late Model debut, seventh-starting Allen Brannon of Winchester, Va., overtook polesitter Jared Hawkins of Fairmont, W.Va., on the fourth lap and led the remaining distance for a $6,000 RUSH victory in Winchester's Crate Racin' USA Late Model Nationals.
Quotable: "It feels good to win at my home track in my first-ever Crate Late Model race. It's more down on power than what I'm used to, but I got the hang of it later on," Brannon said. "I'd like to dedicate this race to my dad, who passed away a month ago. He never missed a race, and I miss him a lot."
Key notes: Runner-up Rob Blair of Titusville, Pa., raced as a teammate to his son Max. ... Jeff Pilkerton spun in turn three on the opening lap. ... Max Blair fell from second to 14th early after nearly spinning in turn two; Blair retired on lap six after colliding with Darin Henderson when he tried to enter the infield pits. … Ben Bowie drew a lap-17 caution when he hit the turn-two wall. … A yellow flew for Clinton Hersch on lap 37 when he spun in front of the field. … Matt Tarbox spun with a flat tire on lap 39. ... John Imler was the winner of the $1,500 non-qualifiers' race.
On the move: Provisional starter Brian Knowles of Corning, N.Y., improved 19 positions for a sixth-place finish.
Winner's sponsors: Brannon's No. 30 Lazer Chassis is sponsorsed by Brannon Construction & Excavating, Marple Enterprises and Penske Racing Shocks.
