Vic Hill celebrates his victory in the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals finale.
What won the race: Charging from the eighth starting position, Vic Hill of Morristown, Tenn., outdueled fourth-starting Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, Tenn., for a $10,050 victory in the Schaeffer Oil Southern National Series season finale at Tazewell Speedway. Finishing seventh, Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., clinched his first career Southern Nationals championship, surviving a late tangle with a slower car.
Key notes: Hill has five career Southern Nationals victories. His last came at Volunteer Speedway in 2013. ... The first yellow flag waved on lap 20. ... Bo Eaton spun to draw a caution on lap 26. ... A yellow flag flew for Casey Roberts on lap 38. He initially pulled his helmet off as if he'd retire, but returned after getting attention in the pits to win the title by four points. ... Roberts revealed he'd been using a transmission borrowed from Stacy Boles, car owner for his closest series rival, Billy Ogle Jr.
On the move: Hill advanced from the eighth starting spot for the victory.
Winner's sponsors: Hill's Longhorn Chassis has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsorship from Landair Transport, Orthapaedic Institute of Western Kentucky, Pilot Travel Centers, American Racing Tire, Preferred Sandblasting & Patining and Fastlane.
