Jon Mitchell has seven SUPR victories in 2015, one more than 2014.
What won the race: Polesitter Jon Mitchell of Texarkana, Texas, eclipsed the victory total of his title-winning 2014 campaign Saturday at Battleground Race Park, earning his seventh P&W Sales Southern United Professional Racing series triumph of the season. Mitchell pocketed $2,000 for the 40-lap win, the 18th of his SUPR career.
Key notes: Runner-up Curt Lipsey was looking for his first SUPR victory since 2002. ... Battleground hosted a SUPR weekend doubleheader with $1,000- and $2,000-to-win events; Tyler Erb won Friday's opener with a flag-to-flag victory. ... Mitchell, the reigning series champion, also swept April 3-4 events at Battleground. ... Battleground typically hosts weekend Crate Late Models. ... Hearts were heavy in the SUPR community with Thursday's death of Pat Wright, long-time car owner for series regular Ronny Adams.
On the move: Tyler Erb of Magnolia, Texas, made the most notable advance, moving from the seventh starting spot to a fourth-place finish.
Winner's sponsors: Mitchell's MasterSbilt Race Car is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by W&W Timber, Team 5 Enterprises, Kustom Graphics, J&J Motorsports, HealthCARE Express, Keyser Manufacturing Company, Kenneth's High Performance, Integra Shocks, FK Rod Ends, R2C Competition Series Filters and VP Fuels.
