What won the race: Charlie Sandercock of Belleville, Ont., survived heavy late-race pressure from Lee Gill of Lafargeville, N.Y., to emerge victorious in the 30-lap Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series feature at Mohawk International Raceway. Sandercock, who earned $1,000 for topping the opener of a two-race weekend at the 4/10-mile oval, recorded his third straight triumph at Mohawk with the Crate Late Model tour dating back to 2014.
Key notes: Gill was all over Sandercock for the lead when a caution flag flew with two laps remaining. Sandercock then controlled the restart to reach the checkered flag first. ... On Saturday night, Sandercock will bid to sweep Go Nuclear's two-race weekend at Mohawk for the second consecutive year. ... Sean Beardsley brought out an early caution flag with a spin in turn four. ... A previous April 25-26 Go Nuclear doubleheader at the track was canceled. ... Go Nuclear's richest event, the Great Crate Race, rained out last weekend at Brighton (Ontario) Speedway and was recently reset for Sept. 26.
Winner's sponsors: Sandercock's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Bellevue Fabricating, Deerhaven Farm and Garden, Newnham Enterprise, Image Landscape Contracting, Excel Tower Service, Jeff Harrison Farms, Eibach Springs, Pro Racing Shocks, MCR, and Image Factor.ca Motorsports Designs.
Points chase: Lee Gill entered the weekend leading Sandercock in the standings.
Car count: 24
Heat race winners: Kyle Sopaz, Brandon Mowat, Lee Gill
Next series race: September 19, Mohawk International Raceway (Hogansburg, NY) $1,500
