Chris Madden (44) outdueled Randy Weaver (116) to capture his first win of 2015.
What won the race: Winning his first race of 2015, polesitter Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., outdueled fellow front-row starter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., for $5,000 in the Southern All Star Series-sanctioned King of the Mountain Fall Classic. Weaver challenged the winner in traffic during the race's middle stages, but Madden answered and went on to victory.
Key notes: On Sept. 6, Madden returned to competition following a near four-month break; he made just his fifth start on Saturday since debuting behind the wheel of a Longhorn Race Car. ... Madden has 45 career SAS triumphs, the second most all-time. ... Billy Ogle Jr. overtook Weaver for second on lap 29. ... Weaver entered the evening with five special-event victories at Smoky Mountain on the season, including an April 24 SAS triumph. ...
