Russell Erwin earned $20,000 in the Monster Dirt Madness feature.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when Justin Williams fell out of the race in the closing laps with mechanical issues, eighth-starting Russell Erwin of Beaverdam, Va., tamed a rugged racing surface and went on for a $20,000 victory in Clary's Speedway's Monster Dirt Madness. The drivers previously battled hard and traded the top spot, including when Erwin made a third-to-first move in the first half of the feature.
Key notes: Just after regaining the point from Erwin, Justin Williams gave up the lead exiting turn two and pulled to the infield; he finished sixth. ... Willie Milliken lost the lead before the midpoint when he was caught up by the stalled car of J.P. Cascell in turn three. ... Mason Price was part of an early caution but rallied to finish fifth. ... Walker Arthur contended but retired with overheating problems later in the race, finishing ninth. ... The attrition-filled feature was slowed by several yellow flags. ... Rough track conditions challenged drivers. ... The $20,000-to-win event was for unlimited steel-block engine Late Models, one of the richest non-Super Late Model purses in the country. ... Preliminaries were completed Friday.
On the move: The winner started eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Erwin's family-owned Battenbilt-powered MasterSbilt by Huey machine carries sponsorship from Erwin Racing Supply, High Farms and Day Motorsports.
Points chase: Brandon Hux of Louisburg, N.C., wrapped up the Late Model crown at Clary's.
Editor's note: Results and race details are unofficial.
