Jason Feger (25) outran Kent Robinson (7R) at Florence Speedway.
What won the race: Charging around the high side, sixth-starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., slipped past polesitter Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., on lap three of 35, dominating the remaining distance for a $2,000 payday in the opening night of Florence Speedway’s Fall 50 weekend.
Quotable: “K-Rob and I are good buddies and he’s always fast here," Feger said. "I knew once I was running with him there and kind of got under him...I was like, ‘Whoa, this thing’s pretty good.’ Once I got out front I just tried not to make any dumb mistakes. It’s getting better and better."
Key notes: Feger made his first appearance at Florence since the 2012 UMP Summernationals stop at the Northern Kentucky oval. ... The race was slowed by three cautions. ... The first yellow waved on the opening lap when second-starting Eric Wells spun in turns three and four. … Wells drew a second caution on lap nine when he slowed on the front stretch; a yellow waved on the ensuing restart when Greg Johnson spun in turn four. ... Friday's $2,000-to-win event was the first of two nights of action in the expanded Fall 50, which has traditionally been a $5,000-to-win event for Super Late Models on Saturday only. ... Saturday's program again includes a $5,000-to-win event for Late Models along with the $5,000-to-win finale on the American Modified Series. ... Kyle Strickler was the winner of Friday's $1,500-to-win AMS event; Joe Godsey won the Crate Late Model feature.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., charged from the 14th starting spot to finish fifth. Nick Latham of Winchester, Ohio, rallied from the 23rd starting position to finish eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger's Black Diamond Chassis carries sponsorship from Allstar Performance, Cheap Cars, Griffin Sign Shop, Floyd's Waste Disposal, Pro Tire, Mulligan's, Renegade Fuels, Titan Steel and Wehrs Machine and Racing Products.
