What won the race: Rallying from his fifth-row starting spot, Austin Rettig of Sikeston, Mo., led the final 10 laps of the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series opener, earning $2,000 at Timberline Speedway for his second career tour victory. He took the checkers a full straightaway ahead of Hunter Rasdon.
Quotable: “I don’t know if I’ve ever drove as hard as I drove tonight,” Rettig said. “My car kept getting better and better throughout the feature. This has been a long time coming, and I just want to thank all of my sponsors and crew for their support.”
Key notes: Rettig, 20, notched his first series victory in 2011 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. ... He used a daring fourth-to-second move in turn two on a lap-18 restart to move into contention. ... Allen Tippen led the first six laps from outside the front row before Hunter Rasdon took command on a restart. ... Rettig overtook Rasdon on lap 21 and led the rest of the 30-lapper. ... Three cautions slowed the feature. ... Late afternoon rain briefly delayed but didn't stop the action. ... The 31 entries represented seven states. ... B.J. Robinson got the Henryetta Ford Hard Luck award.
Winner's sponsors: Rettig's Billy Moyer Victory Race Car is sponsored by Retco Trailer Manufacturing and D&D Trucking.
