Mark Fields gets a hug in victory lane at Thunderhill Raceway.
What won the race: Mark Fields of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., kept reigning series champ Riley Hickman in check at Thunderhill Raceway to capture his first career Southern All Star Racing Series victory. Fields led every lap in earning $4,000 at his home track.
Quotable: "(Crew members) told me to stay low in (turns) one and two and I'd probably be OK," Fields said, "but you never close your eyes on Riley Hickman or any of the other ones in the field. On any given night any one of 'em can take it."
Key notes: Fields was emotional in victory lane after his first series victory, pausing briefly in victory lane with his voice cracking. ... He's the second straight first-time series winner following Jason Hiett on April 30 at Alabama's Talladega Short Track. ... A single late caution slowed the Thunderhill action for Brett White's spin between turns one and two. ... Josh Putnam piloted the Limited Late Model of Donald Johns after hitting the wall in time trials in his own No. 212; Putnam rallied to sixth in the feature. ... Jamie Williams scratched from the 16-car lineup for the main event. ... The tour visited Thunderhill for just the third time, and the first since May 26, 2001. ... Crate Late Models were among eight other classes on the card.
On the move: Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., started at the tail and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Fields is sponsored by Legends Steakhouse, Doss Brothers Inc., Superior Restoration and Remodeling and Fields Auto Sales.
Points chase: Three-time and reigning champ Riley Hickman moved into the series points lead with his runner-up finish.
