Rhett Carter takes the checkers for the second time in the weekend.
What won the race: Rhett Carter of Hoboken, Ga., led all 40 laps at North Florida Speedway, using a combination of finesse and speed for a $2,000 Southern Thunder Late Model Series victory. Bo Allen slipped back as far as fourth before finishing second as the only home-state driver in the top five.
Quotable: “It definitely was a lot more than going fast tonight,” Carter said. “I stuck to the bottom and made it work even around traffic. You don’t come to North Florida Speedway without having to beat Bo Allen and we knew that.”
Key notes: Carter notched his second career Southern Thunder victory; his first came on Aug. 15, 2015, at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga. ... He also notched a two-victory weekend, winning Friday night at All-Tech Raceway in nearby Ellisville, Fla. ... Six cautions slowed the action. ... Kyle Bridges started sixth and moved up to second after nine laps, but a lap-16 tangle in traffic knocked him from contention. ... Cole Exum entered the race leading the series points but retired with mechanical issues.
Winner's sponsors: Carter's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by 44 Trucking, Wildcat Performance, Satilla Motors, Taylor Pools, Ocean Petroleum, and Jeffs Heating and Air.
Points chase: Carter's victory unofficially moved him into the Southern Thunder points lead.
