Freddie Carpenter shows off his $12,000 check at Ohio Valley.
What won the race: Freddie Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., outraced his son Tyler in a three-lap shootout at Ohio Valley Speedway to earn a career-high $12,000 victory in the Jim Dunn Memorial. The elder Carpenter won by a nose after a lap-47 caution set up the dramatic finish.
Key notes: Fast qualifier Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., led the first half of the race, but spun in turn three just after Tyler and Freddie Carpenter slipped by. ... Chris Carpenter ran among the top three most of the way but retired early; he earned $500 for winning the dash. ... Devin Moran was late after a tire blowout on his hauler; he used a provisional and raced his way to an eighth-place finish. ... Dan Morrison had a rollover accident in prelims but was apparently OK. ... The 34th annual Jim Dunn Memorial marked the richest race in Ohio Valley Speedway history. ... The event honored the late and inaugural Dirt Track World Champion from Roseville, Ohio.
On the move: Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., started 10th and finished second; Zack Dohm of Charleston, W.Va., started ninth and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Freddie Carpenter's Kryptonite Race Cars is sponsored by Octane Race Products.
