Devin Dixon (58) and Mark Whitener (5) mix it up at Golden Isles.
What won the race: Rebounding from a wreck while leading in his last trip to Golden Isles Speedway, Devin Dixon of Apollo Beach, Fla., led the way Saturday for a $3,000 I-95 Toyota Challenge Series victory. Dixon took the checkers ahead of Cecil Eunice and Travis Carter.
Quotable: “We had a really good car last time we were here,” Dixon said. “But that’s why they call it racing and not winning.”
Key notes: Dixon notched his third victory since joining the Big Frog Motorsports team mid-spring. ... Former Big Frog driver Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., crossed the line in fourth, but he was disqualified for retaliating against Dixon on the cool-down lap; the front-row starters had battle up front much of the race and made contact on lap 25, shuffling Whitener back to fourth. ... Holt Pipkin and Hampton White didn't start the feature. ... The Toyota I-95 Challenge is a miniseries at Golden Isles, Albany (Ga.) Motor Speedway and Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga.
On the move: Cecil Eunice of Blackshear, Ga., started eighth and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Dixon's Big Frog Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Koury Racing Enigne and sponsored by Dave's Towing, Keyser Mfg., Big Frog Shock & Suspension Technology and Big Frog Signs & Graphix.
Points chase: Rhett Carter leads I-95 Toyota Challenge points.
