Harlan Sale won his first career Late Model feature in a 10-year career.
What won the race: In a race where tire wear played a key role, polesitter Harlan Sale of Edmond, Okla., led his third stretch of the 25-lapper in the final laps at Oklahoma Sports Park in Sooner Late Model Series action for his first career Late Model victory.
Quotable: “The key was consistency. I rode the brakes pretty hard to make it work right. But I can’t complain. The car worked perfect," Sale said. “The tires got a little wear. That is where the control came in. I figured the longer I could stay where I was the better.”
Key notes: Sale has been racing about 10 seasons. ... Sale led the first eight laps before Sloppy Hogg (the racing name of driver Larry White) took the lead. ... Sale regained the lead with a contact pass on lap 16 that sent White to the pits with a flat tire. ... Joe Gorby then led for three laps, but a flat right reat tire handed the lead back to Sale, who led the rest of the way. ... Sale actually thought he finished second after being overtaken by White late, but White was a lap down. ... Additionally, Hogg was disqualified for using an illegal tire.
Points chase: Mark Harrison left Ada, Okla., with 1,175 points to lead Eddie Martin (1,050).
Car count: 20
Heat race winners: Joe Gorby, Gary Lowe, Sloppy Hogg, Jay Sale
Consolation race winners: Zach Nickell
Next series race: August 20, Brill's Motor Speedway (Meeker, OK) $750
