Tyler Bruening's third Deery Brothers victory came in his third Yankee Dirt Track Classic victory.
What won the race: Winning the Yankee Dirt Track Classic of the third time, Tyler Bruening of Decorah, Iowa, earned $7,500 Saturday at Farley Speedway. Bruening battled for second with Chad Holladay much of the race before overtaking Matt Ryan on a late-race restart. Ryan settled for second and Holladay was third in the 100-lapper.
Quotable: “It’s a huge honor to win this race. We think really highly of the Yankee,” Bruening said. “Anybody can win on any given night in the Deery Series. We’ve had kind of a dry spell so this win is pretty sweet.”
Key notes: Bruening's third victory in Farley's traditional event also marks the third of his career on the Deery Brothers Summer Series. ... Bruening previously won Farley's big race in 2011 (50 laps) and '12 (75 laps). ... Justin Kay, who won Thursday and Friday tuneup races, was an early retiree. ... The 39th annual event was presented by Casey's General Stores.
On the move: Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, started 21st and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Bruening's Capital Race Car is sponsored by Bruening Rock Products, Skyline Materials and Minnowa Construction.
Points chase: With two Deery Brothers events remaining, Bruening extended his series points lead to four marks over Jeff Aikey of Waterloo, Iowa.
Car count: 40
Heat race winners: Chad Holladay, Joe Zrostlik, Ray Guss Jr., Joel Callahan, Matt Ryan
Consolation race winners: Chris Horn, Denny Eckrich
Next series race: September 8, Boone Speedway (Boone, IA) $2,000
Editor's note: Results and race details are unofficial.
