What won the race: Inheriting the lead when polesitter Vic Hill had a flat tire, David Payne of Murphy, N.C., led the rest of the 44-lap Buddy Rogers Memorial for a $4,400 payday on the Southern Nationals Bonus Series. The third-starting Payne took the checkers ahead of unrelated pursuers Billy Ogle Jr. and Chad Ogle at the high-banked quarter-mile oval.
