Jason Welshan picked up $3,000 for his Winterfest victory.
What won the race: Third-starting, Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., took the lead from polesitter and defending race champion John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., after the two made contact racing through turns three and four near the halfway point. Welshan drove away from the field in leading the rest of the way to earn a $3,000 victory in Winchester Raceway Park's 13th annual Winterfest.
Quotable: "Coming over here we knew we'd have to race (Ownbey). We kinda knew he'd be the one to race. It was pretty satisfying. It was good to finally come out on top for sure," said Welshan, who led more than half of last year's Winterfest before a tangle with Ownbey relegated him to a 13th-place finish.
Key notes: It marked the first Winterfest under the direction of new owner Bob Harris, who purchased the speedway last fall. Harris also owns nearby Duck River Raceway Park. ... More than 150 cars in seven divisions crowded the Winchester pit area on a cool and overcast day. ... The start was pushed back approximately two hours after early morning showers moved through the area. ... Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, Tenn., led the distance to win the Crate Late Model feature, which paid $1,500 to win. ... Randy Gifford of Flintville, Tenn., won the Sportsman/Limited Late Model feature for back-to-back Winterfest victories and a $1,000 payday. ... The next event on Winchester's schedule is a $3,000-to-win MARS DIRTcar Series East event on April 15.
Winner's sponsors: Welshan's No. 29 Hidden Hollow Motorsports Longhorn Chassis by Skinny is powered by a B&B Performance Racing Engine and sponsored by C&J Trucking, Competition Racing Equipment, Ronald Sexton Construction and Marshall Wahl Racing.
Points chase: Jerry Ashley of Elora, Tenn., is the reigning track champion.
