Casey Roberts celebrates his $4,000 Southern All Stars victory at Southern Raceway.
What won the race: Leading all 40 laps, polesitter Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., outran second-starting Ryan Crane capturing the $4,000 Southern All Star Series victory at Southern Raceway in the Bash at the Beach. The tour competed in Florida for the first time since 2005.
Quotable: "It's a little different surface for us, you know, but the car worked real well," Roberts said. "It was just our night."
Key notes: Roberts dedicated the victory to his great aunt, who recently died. ... He notched his 10th career Southern All Star victory; he won four series races last season. ... Ryan Crane's runner-up finish was his best Super Late Model performance. ... The feature was slowed by two cautions. ... Ten of 26 starters finished on the lead lap. ... Eric Hickerson was a late arrival because of a hauler breakdown. He started at the tail of the second heat and finished in the sixth and final transfer spot. ... Saturday concludes the doubleheader weekend with a $5,000-to-win feature. ... The weekend marks the tour's first stop at the Milton, Fla., oval since 1990.
On the move: Eric Hickerson of Linden, Tenn., started 22 and finished 12th after missing time trials.
Winner's sponsors: Robert's Jim and Ann Cushman-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Custom Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Cushman Paint & Body, Hoosier Racing Tire, M&S Concrete, Schaeffer Oil, Starrette Trucking and VP Racing Fuels.
Points chase: Entering the event, Ross Bailes topped the series standings over Mike Marlar and Jonathan Davenport. None were in attendance at Southern Friday.
