Donald McIntosh's last-lap pass was worth $6,000.
What won the race: Two-time and reigning series champ Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., dove under fellow front-row starter Brandon Overton entering turn one on the final lap Saturday at Senoia Raceway, regaining the lead with a slider exiting turn two to claim a $6,000 Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals victory. McIntosh led the first 30 laps before Overton took control and led until the last of 50 laps. He finished 0.917 seconds behind at the finish as the frontrunners faced traffic on the final lap.
Quotable: "I didn't expect T.J. (Reaid) to slow down (on the last lap). He had a pretty good pace. I knew I could clear the 116 (Brandon Overton) and the 41 (Reaid) was rolling and then he slowed down in the middle, and I was like, 'oh buddy I'm committed now,'" said McIntosh after making contact with the lapped car of Reaid on the final lap.
Key notes: McIntosh won his first race since October at Crossville (Tenn.) Speedway. ... Last year, McIntosh went winless on the tour but still claimed the points championship. ... A single lap-41 caution slowed the action when T.J. Reaid and Clint Smith tangled in turn one. ... Fifteen drivers completed 50 laps. ... Fast qualifier Brandon Overton was the only driver to crack the 16-second mark. ... The race wrapped up a weekend doubleheader for the Ray Cook-promoted series at Senoia. … Among drivers failing to make the feature: Shane Tankersley, Ryan Crane, Mason Massey, Ross Bailes, Eric Hickerson and Dalton Cook. ... Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., won Friday’s opener for his first-ever series victory. … Ashton Winger won his first feature Saturday in Senoia's Crate Late Model division.
Winner's sponsors: McIntosh's Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by CAT Stowers, Massey Electric, Cherokee Millwright, Blount Excavating, Arnold Trucking and Tennessee RV Sales & Service.
Points chase: Leaving Senoia, Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., has 394 points to lead Dale McDowell (390) and Brandon Overton (386) in Spring Nationals points.
