What won the race: Stealing the lead away from Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., on lap 28 when McDowell slipped up the track in turn two, fourth-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., won the 40-lap Southern All Stars feature at Talladega Short Track for his second career series victory. Once in front, Overton pulled away from McDowell and won by 2.724 seconds.
Quotable: "I really shouldn't have moved out past that lapped car," runner-up Dale McDowell said. "I knew the outside had been working a little bit for those guys. I moved out there just enough and I slipped and when I slipped Brandon got under me. He had the best car there at the end with the race track rubbering up. We just kinda adjusted the wrong way."
Key notes: Ten cars finished on the lead lap. ... Overton's first SAS victory came at Cochran (Ga.) Motor Speedway on Feb. 27, 2016. ... Series points leader Bo Shirley of Gadsden, Ala., completed just 16 laps and finished 17th. ... Polesittter T.J. Reaid retired after five laps. ... Among those failing to make the main event: Ronnie Johnson, Shane Tankersley, Brian Ligon, Jay Scott, Josh Adkins, Trey Wood, Brian Connor and Luke Hoffner. ... The event came during NASCAR weekend across the highway. ... Brandon Brown of Cullman, Ala., won the Limited Late Model feature.
On the move: Tristan Sealy of Moultrie, Ga., took a provisional, started 23rd and raced to an 11th-place finish, the first car one lap down.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Longhorn by Weaver is powered by a Cornett Race Engine and sponsored by Outlaw Racing Southeast, Stone Land Clearing and Excavating, A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services, Mission Transport, CrossFit Overton, JRi Shocks and The Bailey Company.
Points chase: Heading to TST, Bo Shirley (400 points) of Gadsden, Ala., led the points over Casey Roberts (382), Austin Horton (380), T.J. Reaid (362) and Tristan Sealy (324).
