What won the race: Polesitter Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala., raced to victory in the 42-lap B.J. Parker Memorial at Talladega Short Track, earning $4,200. Hiett topped Dallas Cooper and Tim Roszell in the Southern All Star Series event.
Quotable: "I kinda knew if I stayed around that lapped car, there really wasn't no where for (runner-up Dallas Cooper) to go but to run over me and I know Dallas pretty good and he don't race like that," said Hiett. "I just kinda held my own and didn't want to push my luck there."
Key notes: Each of Hiett's two SAS triumphs have come at TST; he also won at the track during NASCAR weekend in April 2016. ... The 42-lap, $4,200-to-win race honored the founder of the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series, with an ode to his familiar No. 42. ... Parker started the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series in 1983. The series, now in its 34th season, is the longest, continuously operated dirt racing series in the country. ... Two more SAS events are scheduled for TST on Aug. 12 and Oct. 14.
Winner's sponsors: Hiett’s Capital Race Car is powered by a Vinson Race Engine and sponsored by Freestyle Graphics, Phillips Properties, Austin Trucking and NSC Mechanical.
