Jason Covert won the Ernie Jones Memorial.
What won the race: Winning a back-and-forth battle with Kyle Hardy, Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., led the final eight laps at Potomac Speedway to win Friday’s Ernie Jones Memorial. Dale Hollidge of Mechanicsville, Md., slipped by Hardy on lap 29 to finish second in the 35-lapper that was also the third round of the Battle of the Bay. Hardy of Stephens City, Va., settled for third. Covert earned $3,022. for the victory.
Quotable: "That was one of the most fun races I have run in my entire career,” Covert said. "Kyle got us at the start, but once we settled in and put some pressure on him, I think his tires gave up and we were able to get the lead back."
Key notes: It was the third win of the season at Potomac for Covert, who also leads the track's weekly point standings. ... The 35-lap main event was the scheduled third round of the Battle of the Bay miniseries, though two of three races in the second round were rained out and rescheduled. … This round of the nine-race miniseries, kicked off Thursday at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, before shifting to Potomac and then wrapping up at Winchester (Va.) Speedway. … A July 29 rainout at Winchester (Va.) Speedway was rescheduled for Aug. 26, while July 28’s race at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Md., was reset for Sept. 3. … Dale Hollidge of Mechanicsville, Md., won the Battle of the Bay race at Delaware on Thursday. ... Logan Roberson won the Crate Late Model feature. ... Kyle Lear won the Limited Late Model feature.
