What won the race: Vindicated after mechanical woes knocked him out of the lead in the previous series event at Screven, Travis Pennington of Stapleton, Ga., picked up a $2,000 Fastrak touring victory in the Georgia Outlaw State Championships weekend opener. Pennington overtook fellow front-row starter Benji Hicks on the sixth lap and led the rest of the 30-lap main event.
Key notes: Travis Pennington, who broke leading July 22's Fastrak event at Screven, won by 2.473 seconds over tour points leader Benji Hicks. ... Pennington won a July 21 non-series event at Screven over Ben Faircloth. ... Fifteen of 24 starters completed 30 laps Friday. ... The Fastrak tour closes its season with back-to-back nights at Screven. … The Crate Late Models headlined Friday’s action. They will be joined on Saturday’s card by the Ultimate Super Late Model Series, street stocks, super streets and front-wheel drives.
